Mini-Split Heat Pump Fundamentals and Real-World Troubleshooting

About this event

Step into the fast-growing world of ductless mini-split heat pump systems with a hands-on, technician-focused training designed to build confidence and real-world troubleshooting skill from the ground up. This one-day course gives you the essential knowledge and practical techniques needed to diagnose and solve problems in today’s residential and light commercial mini-split systems—safely and accurately.

You’ll break down how modern inverter-driven mini-splits really work, from their operating modes and control strategies to the behavior of advanced components like Electronic Expansion Valves (EEVs), variable-speed compressors, and smart system boards. We’ll take a deep dive into the heat pump refrigeration cycle, defrost logic, reversing valves, fan operation, airflow characteristics, and the sequence of operation—translating factory theory into field-ready understanding.

Through guided discussions and real-world examples, you will learn how to:

• Use test instruments and multimeters effectively and safely

• Perform proper component testing and diagnostic procedures

• Identify airflow, refrigerant, and electrical-related faults

• Interpret controls, sensors, and system logic

• Evaluate overall system performance with confidence

• Follow OEM service literature to ensure accurate, efficient troubleshooting

Whether you’re newer to mini-splits or looking to sharpen your diagnostic edge, this course equips you with the foundation and field insight needed to service and troubleshoot these systems like a pro.

Practical, real-world tips and suggestions are offered throughout the course, based on years of actual field experience.
