If you shop in Richmond or Chesterfield, watch your receipt. Voters in both appeared set to approve a 1% sales tax increase for school construction Tuesday night.
The question was on ballots in 47 Virginia localities, 16 of them in Central Virginia. The money could only go to new school construction and major renovation, and it wouldn't apply to groceries, medicine or personal hygiene products. If approved, it would stay in effect for 20 years.
