If you get a Dominion Energy bill, regulators just heard from your fellow Virginians. At the State Corporation Commission's third in-person public comment session Thursday, speakers filled nearly every seat for roughly three hours on NextEra Energy's proposed acquisition of Dominion.
WRIC reports roughly equal numbers of supporters and opponents spoke. One speaker said her electric bill had already risen 15% in the last year. ChamberRVA's Brian Anderson said Virginia's power needs call for "more scale, more capital."
- Written comments so far: at least 2,400, with more expected
- If approved: largest utility merger in U.S. history
- Recusal calls: Chair Kelsey Bagot has declined to step aside
Earlier this week, Dominion and NextEra answered 117 proposed conditions and agreed to 101. Among the ones they rejected: a three-year rate freeze and keeping current staffing for 10 years.
